Too often I think many of us find ourselves stuck in a metaphorical box, blinding adhering to cultural standards or age restrictions. A lady may want to paint her nails blue and silently remind herself that she is too old to pull it off. A young man may think of starting his own business but society is pushing him to play it safe and get the office job so he can one day provide for his family. Many of us don’t do what we long to because we think we are too young or too old or because someone simply told us we couldn’t because of what they saw as a flaw in us.

In many ways, learning to Dance pushes us beyond what we think we can do or what we think we should. I’ve seen a man renew his personal confidence and start a whole new career, just by daring to learn a dance and perform it in front of an audience. I’ve seen a senior citizen keep her mind sharp by practicing her steps so she can remain living on her own.  And I’ve seen a child, who had delayed speech, say his first words because he hopped and twirled around to music every week.

Dance can transform you. It can renew a broken heart, push your body to regain strength, and give you a safe place to live our your dreams. Our job is to give you the tools, how you let it transform you is up to you.

Last week, on the Dallas Auditions of So You Think You Can Dance, we were inspired by Bree Hafen of McKinney, TX.  She is a wife and mom of two young children. Instead of letting her fear keep her in a box of what a 29 year old mom should be doing, she has boldy embraced her dancing. Whether she wins the competition or not, this experience will forever change her life and that of her children.

Don’t let anyone tell you you cant. Transform Beyond Your Box…
